4th of July
We had a great fourth of July this year. Steve and Cathy are here with us and we decided to take a trip to see the Memorials. In the morning we headed down to Pearl Harbor and went to the Arizona Memorial. It was very cool and really touched me to see first hand the sacrifices of all those brave men who died and are still entombed in their ship. After that Phil took us to a spot on Ford Island where you can see holes made in the concrete by the machine guns on the Japanese planes. We sat and had a picnic and then went to the Utah Memorial. I think that these two ships really affected me because my husband is in the Navy and I have had to consider what I would do if he died at sea. Very sad stuff.
After we had visited all the memorials, we went to the Pearl Harbor Base and hung out at the big block party. They had all kinds of games and bounce houses as well as a live band and treats galore. The kids got to go play on the bounce houses and then played frisbee and football with Phil and Steve. Steve and Cathy earned the eternal devotion of my children by purchasing them some cotton candy. Caleb liked it so much that after he was done with his, he went up to some random person, said "hi", grabbed some of their cotton candy and ran. Funny. Anyway, the fireworks were great and we were pleasantly surprised because last year the show up at Schofield was not very good. Caleb fell asleep and missed the fireworks, but he didn't know what he had missed so it was all good. We got stuck in traffic, but still made it home at a decent hour, so it was, all in all, a fabulous day.
